Hombu Jikimon KoKoDo Sadohana Kai

Guidelines, Rules & Regulations

Purpose & Authority

  • Established in 1995 to teach KoKoDo Jujutsu and KoKoDo Shiatsu.

  • Soke holds exclusive authority over teachings, certifications, and intellectual property.

  • Only the Soke or designated Hanshi aka Regional Directors may grant teaching authority.

  • Certificates for Shihan, Kaiden, Kogyoku, Renshi, Kyoshi, Hanshi may only be issued by the Soke.

  • Teaching the Shihan and Okuden level is reserved for Soke. Regional director are responsible for reviewing the teachers to prepare members for testing and Renshi. This is a hard guidline.

  • Kyu and Dan certificates are issued by Hanshi/Director

Dojo Access & Registration

  • Visits to Hombu Dojo (Japan) require prior approval via Regional Director. Trips are made each year so if interested please let us know of interest at least 1 year in advanced.

  • Students must be registered and in good standing.

  • Chain of communication: Student Shihan Hanshi Hombu.

  • Dojo cross training is encouraged and permitted when above chain of command is followed and all parties concerned have agreed to it via formal communication.

  • All members in good standing may have access to Hombu Jikimon Sadohana Dojo in Vancouver with prior consent.

Training Standards

  • Completion of basic KoKoDo Shiatsu is required before Shodan testing.

  • Teach Kihon Waza in proper order, simply and clearly.

  • Maintain discipline and Japanese etiquette (reigi) at all times.

  • Annual Hanshi visits ensure quality oversight.

Membership Conduct

  • Uphold the principles of Harmony, Respect, Loyalty, Discipline, Honour, Responsibility, and Effort.

  • Avoid contact with expelled members or illegitimate organizations.

  • Train mind, body, and spirit, serving humanity.

Testing & Promotions

  • Dan tests are requested through Shihan Hanshi Hombu.

  • Yondan+ is reserved for Shihan candidates; written tests are required for Nidan+. Yondan is taught by Hanshi or Soke only.

  • Kyu & Dan requirements specify age, hours, and minimum classes.

  • Kyu testing and promotional fee is 10000 yen (includes official certificate

  • Dan testing and promotional fee is 35000 yen (includes official certificate

  • Brown Belt and Dan testing will take place under supervision and guidance of the Kaicho and typically take place at Gasshuku and or technical seminars such as Yudansha Seminars.

Kyu & Dan Promotional Requirements

  • Adult Kyu Ranks: White → Yellow → Orange → Green → Blue → Brown → Brown w/ white stripes (≈ 50 hrs per Kyu).

    • Hakyu = white belt

    • Nanakyu = yellow belt

    • Rokkyu = orange belt

    • Gokyu = green belt

    • Yonkyu = blue belt

    • Sankyu = brown belt

    • Nikkyu = brown belt with 2 white stripes

    • Ikkyu = brown belt with 3 white stripes

  • Dan Ranks and approximate time on tatami:

    • Shodan – 400 hrs

    • Nidan – 700 hrs

    • Sandan – 1000 hrs

    • Yondan – 1100 hrs

    • Attendance books and sheets must used to justify hours

  • Youth ranks are modified; Blue and above reserved for adults (16 for blue and 18 for shodan).

  • Certificates:

    • Kyu – issued by Hombu Jikimon Director

    • Dan – issued by Hombu Jikimon Director with Soke’s approval

  • Only Hanshi and Soke may authorize Hombu Jikimon Sadohana Kai Dan promotions.

  • Promotional fees must be recorded, collected and submitted within 30 days of any test to Hombu Jikimon Sadohana Dojo starting with an online report.

Affiliate Dojo Responsibilities

  • Maintain financial and operational responsibility.

  • Ensure a professional, safe, and clean training environment.

  • Report promotions and new member records within 30 days.

  • Attend regular yearly raining with teacher and Regional Director.

  • Fees include: Dojo charter, Shihan registration, black belt registration, kyu registration, entrance, and promotion fees.

  • Yearly report and fees due: Before or by Dec 15th.

Discipline & Compliance

  • Non-compliance may lead to suspension or loss of official KOKODO rank.

  • Students of non-registered Shihan must transfer to an active Shihan.

Legacy & Purpose

  • Preserve the purity of KoKoDo Jujutsu & Shiatsu.

  • Serve and protect the arts for future generations.

Affiliate Commitments

  • Offer regular classes with high-quality instruction.

  • Participate in Hombu Jikimon Sadohana Dojo seminars and support community growth.

  • Use approved materials, purchased only from Hombu Jikimon Sadohana Kai.

  • Maintain monthly communication with the Sadohana Kai Director.

  • Coordinate Hombu visits through Hanshi approval.

Affiliate Creation

  • May be requested/granted when:

    • A member relocates >45 km from an existing dojo.

    • A dedicated student demonstrates commitment.

    • Endorsed by Shihan and Hombu; exceptions only by Soke & Hanshi.

Student Registration & Records

  • All students must register online; affiliates submit full membership lists.

  • Rank promotions and grading fees must be recorded.

  • List of Yundsha not returning from previous year

  • Students may not change dojo without written consent from:

    • Current dojo teacher

    • Proposed future dojo teacher

    • Approval by Hanshi

Community & Seminars

  • Members attend technical and annual seminars.

  • Members encouraged to register to our online VOD

  • Affiliates host at least one seminar with Hanshi Seamark annually.

KoKoDo Products & Media

  • All merchandise, publications, and media require Director approval.

  • Purchase embroidered gi, patches, and materials through Hombu Jikimon Sadohana Kai and Hombu .

By operating a school, dojo, or group, owners and leaders agree to uphold all standards and procedures outlined above. Soke and Hombu Jikimon Sadohana Dojo reserves the right to change the regulations from time to time and as needed.
