Frequently Asked Questions
Training at Sadohana Dojo
1. What makes Sadohana different from other martial arts schools?
At Sadohana, we combine traditional martial arts values with modern training methods. Our dojo is rooted in respect, discipline, and community—no egos, no thugs, just supportive teammates and skilled instructors dedicated to helping you grow safely and effectively.
2. I’m a complete beginner. Can I still join?
Absolutely. Many of our members started with no martial arts background. We’ll guide you step-by-step, focusing on safety, fundamentals, and building confidence at your own pace.
3. Do I need to be in shape before starting?
No! Training itself will help you build strength, flexibility, and endurance. Our classes are designed so you can start at your current fitness level and progress naturally.
4. What styles do you teach?
We offer:
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ): Practical self-defense, grappling, and ground control.
KoKoDo JuJutsu: Traditional joint locks, throws, and atemi waza techniques.
Goshinjutsu (Self-Defense): Real-world protection skills rooted in martial tradition.
5. Is training safe?
Yes. Safety is our top priority. Classes are structured, supervised, and paced according to each student’s level. Our instructors emphasize control, respect, and technical precision so you can train consistently without injury.
6. What should I wear for my first class?
If you don’t yet own a gi (martial arts uniform), comfortable workout clothing is fine—something you can move freely in. No zippers or buttons please. Once you decide to join, we’ll help you get the proper uniform and gear.
7. How many classes should I attend each week?
Most students train 2–3 times per week to see steady progress. That said, you’re welcome to attend more often as your schedule allows. Consistency matters more than intensity.
8. Is there grading fees?
Although gradings are not regular in JuJutsu or BJJ you can expect to pay association or promotion fees about once a year which average out to be 80-160$ per year.
9. What’s the community like?
Our dojo is more than just a place to train—it’s a family. Students support each other, celebrate progress together, and build lasting friendships on and off the mats.
10. How do I get started?
Simple: contact us to book a trial class. You’ll meet the instructors, experience the atmosphere, and get a feel for whether our dojo is the right fit for you.
✨ At Sadohana, we believe martial arts is a lifelong journey of growth. Whether you’re here for fitness, self-defense, or personal development—you’ll find a place where you’re welcomed, supported, and challenged to become your best self.
