What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga Therapy is a methodical science of implementing dynamic movement with stay poses and integrating specific, breath techniques to heat, cool, strengthen and relax the body mind. It is an individualized, classical approach to Yoga.
I have an injury, can I do yoga?
Yes, Yoga Therapy is specifically designed to accommodate injuries using a range of modifications with classical poses and specific-joint strengthening. With that being said, if you have an injury new or old it is always important to consult your doctor / specialist before resuming any forms of exercise, including yoga.
What is Iyengar yoga?
Commonly known as Alignment Based Yoga- BKS Iyengar is a living master of yoga. He was a student of Sri T. Krishnamacharya for many years before being encouraged to move on and develop his own style. He has been refining his practice and teaching methodology for over 60 years. His innovative method sets his style apart because of his (1) emphasis on standing poses that develop strength, vigor, and correct alignment, (2) supported inversions and backbends that passively relax the nerves, (3) use of props to facilitate ease and depth of learning, and (4) careful, individualized adjustments.
What is hatha yoga?
Hatha yoga is a classical system which coordinates body, breath, and mental focus. Consistent practice over time, can release accumulated tensions in the muscles, calm frayed nerves, restructures alignment, detoxifies the blood stream, increases oxygen absorption, changes brain wave patterns and improves respiration and hormonal circulation.
Is yoga a religion?
No. Yoga is the process of breathing well, moving the body and integrating the mind, into the present moment. One need not be religious to benefit, however, the practice of yoga may enhance one's religious experience.
Do I need to be flexible to do Yoga?
No, flexibility will be a byproduct of good yoga. Food for thought; Saying you are not flexible enough to do yoga is like saying you are too dirty to have a shower.
