We off to our members both the Basic and Advanced Certification Programs with the KoKoDo Kappo Shiatsu Juku, Omiya Japan, at Sadohana Dojo, Vancouver.
KoKoDo JuJutsu and Shiatsu make KoKoDo a complete and true budo system allowing its students and practitioners to protect and defend from enemies both inside and outside the body. In KoKoDo both Yin and Yang are inseparable.
Shiatsu is a Japanese manual therapy that traces its origin to ancient Chinese medical traditions. Combining knowledge of western anatomy and physiology with the holistic approach of eastern medicine, Shiatsu employs the techniques of gentle pressure, exercises and passive stretches to release the effects of built-up stress.
Shiatsu aims to release and regulate the energy known as ‘ki’ or ‘life force’ which flows through the meridian network (energy channels) running throughout the body. These channels or pathways act like rivers and streams. When a Keiraku or meridian has a blockage it is like a river: too much water or energy on one side of the blockage and not enough water on the other side. In KoKoDo Kappo Shiatsu pressure is used to affect this energy flow. Shiatsu practitioners use their hands, thumbs to apply pressure along the meridian. This results in nourishing the internal organs, muscles, hormones, nerves and blood. An imbalance in this energy network can lead to fatigue, pain and illness.
Although Shiatsu is not intended to be a painful experience, pain is the body’s signal that an imbalance exists. The Shiatsu practitioner locates these areas and/or points and applies the appropriate pressure to help correct the imbalance. This pressure is always within your comfort zone. Gradually the pain may subside or change its character. Tension is released and the flow of energy is restored, as your body’s natural healing process begins.
Using the same Keiraku and theory utilized in KoKoDo JuJutsu to control an attacker, KoKoDo Shiatsu defends against attacks of disease and sickness from within the body. Shiatsu treatments aim to balance irregular and incorrect accumulations or deficiencies of Ki in the client. All KoKoDo Shihan undergo training in KoKoDo Shiatsu, as this is also an important aspect of understanding the results of the art’s more strictly martial applications. Sadohana dojo conducts extensive clinical training for practitioners, upon satisfactory completion of which they are awarded certification from the KoKoDo So Honbu Dojo.

The term moxabustion comes from “mogusa”, the Japanese term for the word moxa punk. The punk is made from mugwort leaves, an herb that has been used for its therapeutic effect for thousands of years. It has very unique healing qualities such as heat therapy, ki therapy, and aromatherapy. When burnt it creates a “heater” which provides warmth to the skin evenly and adds, subtracts and moves ki.
Moxibustion is often used during traditional Japanese-style Shiatsu treatment or on its own as a separate and individual moxa treatment. Moxibustion exerts a wide effect on many energetic and biochemical systems, just as in acupressure and acupuncture. There are 3 main types of moxa used at our centre:
