Individuals holding a security worker license who are required to carry and use handcuffs in the performance of their duties are now required to make application to add this condition to their Security Worker license through the Registrar, Security Services Act. In order to obtain this condition, individuals must successfully complete the 24 hour Advanced Security Training (AST) course provide by Instructors approved by the Justice Institute of B.C. The Advanced Security Training requisite course is 24 hours in length and fill focus on the following topics:
Security Services Act & Regulations
Advanced Force Options Theory
Introduction to Control Tactics
Application of Restraints
Excited Delirium
Reporting & Documentation
AST students will be evaluated for proficiency in hands on control tactics as well as achieving a minimum of 75% on a written examination.
Course cost is $399.00 + HST = Total $446.00 (must be submitted prior to attending)

Day 1 - Classroom Theory (0930-1730)
Day 2 - Practical Training (0930-1730)
Day 3 - Practical Training (0930-1730)
Day 4 - written exam follows (1000-1100)
Required Equipment
You will be required to bring
handcuffs (metal chain - AST does NOT permit hinged)
handcuff key
If you have a non metal belt and carrying pouch you may bring those also.
For Day 2-3 you will need to wear clean, comfortable loose fitting clothing to work in. No shoes, no zippers, buttons or rivets in clothing. Only sweats.
No jewelry, trimmed finger and toe nails and proper hygiene.
